Arterion commercialises artificial blood vessels consisting of microbially derived cellulose for revascularisation of patients with cardiovascular diseas.

The manufacturing method is based on a novel technology that controls the life conditions of the microbe Acetobacter xylinum.

The use of microbially derived cellulose will allow clinicians to use artificial blood vessels as replacement for vessels below five millimetres in internal diameter. With today’s materials this is not possible.
